Metro

On the Road

I ended up selling the house in Sauk Rapids and going on the road with a seismograph company for a couple of years before settling down in Nashville, TN in hopes of landing a role as a recording engineer.

So, that effectively closed the chapter on the Stoney Ridge story.

But shortly after landing in Nashville, I got the itch and started looking around for a band that might be in the market for a bass player.

And in no time at all, I found myself in an audition in this shady, Section-8 housing side of town, on the not-so-posh side of Wedgwood, Ave.

Metro was the brain-child of a guy by the name of Greg who was for all intents and purposes, kind of a Neil Young clone.

My Friend Dave

But Metro was where I met David Payen for the first time. And that was to become a significant milestone in my life.

Dave and I got to be good friends and after a while, tired of this odd side-trip of a musical disaster and decided to embark out on our own.

Section-8 Music

We routinely taped out practices with a hand-held cassette recorder. Basically so we could review the game footage and see how the group was progressing. (but it doesn't take much time--at all--listening to these clips to understand that -- it was not.)

Early Practice Tape - November, 1982

I guess if there was a silver lining to this period, it was the fact that I was beginning to stretch as a bass player. By learning things that I would not have come across on my own.

So there's that.
