My Friends

Best Friends Forever

At least in my experience, I have had very few--what I would call--"Best" friends in my life. They have been a rare and most often under appreciated treat along this trepid path we call "life".

So much so, that even now, (in one case, well over 50 years later) I am still in contact with them and we still, to this day, get along like it was our first encounter.

Each one of these people appeared in my life at a time when they fell perfectly into the ebb and flow of my own journey and somehow, for whatever reason, we just clicked. Hard to describe in other than that.

But, it goes deeper than just completing each other's sentences, getting the oddness of each other's humor and always being there for whatever they needed or were going through. Although, all those things certainly factor into it.

But, at its core, it's about that ineffable magic that happens when two people seem to be traveling on the same wavelength through life. There's no need to try and get in sync with each other - you just already are.

John Hayen

John Hayen is easily my longest running best friend.

Bob Thelen

While Bob Thelen a pretty close second. Our friendship dates back to the late 70's.

David Payne

David Payen and I were struggling rockers and played and wrote music together for a lot of years in Nashville.

Chip Chilton

Chip Chilton: my partner in crime for all things filmmaking. (oh...that's his Mulder face)

Marie Dorn

Marie Dorn, has been my writing partner and intellectually demanding debate coach.

Barney Dorn

And last, but certainly not least, comes Barney Dorn. The guy that holds it all together.
