The NASON-1
The "NASON-1" was designed from simple op amp circuits. I designed and etched all the circuit boards and wired the whole thing completely from scratch. This was no Radio Shack kit.
(my favorite building material - wood. The "NASON-1" started its life as a pine box)
(coupled with my second favorite building material - sheet metal.)
Sadly, the "NASON-1" was never actually in service at Attic Recording. It lived its short, semi-useful life in my bedroom and was finally dismantled in late 1983 to form the basis of "NASON-2" which went into service in 1984 and was used both in the studio and during live performances for over two years.
(Propped open, inside view of the "NASON-1's" primitive design.)
(me, late night, hunched over the "NASON-1")
I spent some long nights hunched over the inside of this thing soldering until my testicles turned blue (photo unavailable).
The finished product didn't look too bad and was a gallant effort, but it was rough around the edges, and couldn't get the job done either - it was far too noisy.
