Victim Attitude Syndrome

I used to teach a class at work, during the 90s when all the corporate take-over and merger stuff was going on.

Basically, it just said to focus on what you can and don't make such a big deal out of the "I can't"s.

SYMPTOM CURE
“I can’t do my job because . . .” “Let me figure out how I can . . .”
It’s not my fault How could I affect change
Place Blame Take *Responsibility
Constantly make excuses Catch yourself before making excuses
Avoid engaging Look for a solution (somewhere)
It’s not my job It’s not my job, but I’ll certainly try to help

*Responsibility

For most of us, this is absolutely a learned and need-to-practice behaviour. We don't naturally bring it to the table.

So, initially, it takes a concerted effort to start doing it. But what you'll find, in rather short order, is how absolutely empowering it can be.

Take it for a spin and see. What do you have to lose?
