Synopsis

The Halcyon Project is the code name for a experimental government project in mind control.

The story is set in a fictional future, with the feel of a Cold War East Berlin controlled by brutal military force. Our fictional world is governed by an oppressive body known as The Board of Policy; a monstrosity of a bureaucratic machine with overlapping divisions and departments; the most relentless and suffocating being The Board of Enforcement.

Enforcement as it's referred to, is the military branch of the government and has virtually unlimited reach and authority. Those that wear the Enforcement uniform are feared and, at least outwardly, treated with respect. The often brutal actions of Enforcement are questioned at one’s own risk and only in whispers from behind closed doors.

Behind the scenes, at the direction of the Board's Leadership, an elite government research team has just discovered an ingenious approach to calming dissension in the ranks. It involves flooding the air with high-powered radio waves, virtually undetectable from the wash of other electromagnetic chaos already out there.

The radio wave has been carefully crafted to sync up with--and ultimately interrupt--the brain's beta waves responsible for conscious thought, alertness and focus. When present, the signal produces a calming effect in anyone in its path, which renders them docile and impotent to the actions of freewill.

Ensuring the perfect population of worker-bees unable to question their own lot in life or even ponder the reason for their very existence.

The story centers on Rick Morgan, a highly successful software engineer specializing in system security. After Rick is contracted by an organization to recover security codes that were lost as a result of some recent corporate downsizing, he finds himself detained and face to face with one of Enforcement’s top interrogators.

It was at this same time, that an underground group known simply as the Resistive Movement-— an organization committed to disrupting the inner workings of The Board at all cost-— become aware of the government's nefarious plan.

It was during a routine hacking expedition into the inner workings of the government's mainframe, that one of the Resistive Movement's operatives, Kirk Anderson, came across a series of unclassified emails regarding The Halcyon Project.

From there, it didn't take Kirk long to uncover what was going on and realize that it was imperative for them to come up with a plan to ultimately destroy this aberration. And in short order, devices a plan which hinges on the one man that has the ability to gain complete access to all the security codes needed to backdoor into the system; Rick Morgan.

But as Kirk formulates a plan to free Rick from his abduction by Enforcement, he is unaware that another plan is already in motion -- a plan being executed from within The Board itself.

And as the two plans diverge into a chaotic high-tech, game of cat and mouse, a traitor appears that threatens the very existence of the Resistive Movement,

If he succeeds in springing his trap on time, the Resistive Movement will be destroyed, allowing Enforcement to send a chilling message to all those that attempt to defy their authority.

The Halcyon Project is intended for adult audiences. It contains a steamy sex scene or two, some gory violence along with adult language. It should appeal to those that enjoy reading action adventure, science fiction or mystery & suspense.
