Watching The Detectives
Limbo Land
After Psychic Surgery II disbanded, I kind of quit playing for a while. It's now the early 90s and I'd been trying to be some kind of rock rock player for over a decade now.
Around this time, Dave went on the road with a country band and I only heard from him on and off over the months.
A Fresh Start
And then, somewhere along the line I re-met Chip Staley. We'd brushed paths before in the studio and I knew (from experience), that he was a phenomenal drummer.
But, apparently he had a creative itch that needed to be scratched and he started an all original band doing mostly his own stuff (uhmm...sounds familiar), while playing rhythm guitar instead of drums.
Named affectionately after the Elvis Costello song, Watching The Detectives was Chip's brain-child. We played predominantly original music with the occasional cover thrown in for good measure. And it was a blast.
As a side note, Joe Polenzani and Terry Ballard are 2 of the finest (absolutely rock solid) drummers I've ever had the pleasure of playing with over the years.
Fun Again
I wasn't completely sure until I did it, but it was fun being on stage again. There's just something about playing to an audience (especially if they seem to be into it), that you just can't beat!
