Retirement

Left BrainLeft-Brain

The Transition

Retirement was one of those things that I'd worked toward for decades. Saving, investing, checking the 401k balances. It always seemed so far away.

If I had one piece of advice for anyone with retirement in their foreseeable future, it would to figure out what you want to run toward rather than focusing only on what you're trying to run away from.

I was doing the later, and when retirement finally got here, I found myself in the same predicament as the dog that caught the bumper. Now what?

You'd think the freedom to do whatever you wanted whenever you wanted to, would be great. But for me, it was an adjustment for sure.

I think maybe the left side of my brain was a little lost without the structure.

It's all still a work in progress.

Still At It

But this website is a testament to the fact that I still enjoy coding. I still enjoy building things and I still sit around soldering wires together.

I still play with spreadsheets and databases and a I love a good SQL query just as much as the next guy.

What's next? Who knows? For now just taking it one day at a time.

The Big Pizza Box

Since retiring, one thing that has not been a problem for me is writing songs. Since 2024, I've put 4 more projects up.

And again, like I said early on, if I ever get to the point where I like the stuff I did 5 years ago better than what I'm doing now, then it's probably just time to hang up the old spurs.

(So far I'm good since I really dig number 13!)

The Bucket List

Uhmm. . .that's a good question.

  • Maybe start writing again.
  • More travel and exploring.
  • Continue building out this website.
  • Play live music somemore.
  • Maybe move someplace warmer.

Like I said, still a work in progress.
