Synopsis
The Existence Paradigm is a collection of 5 short stories who's central themes revolve around our perception of who we are, reality and our own reason for existence.
1-SSL3
Sub-Surface Layer 3 is an acronym given to our subconscious mind by the design team that developed it. SSL3 explores the mysterious dichotomy that exists between the conscious and the subconscious mind.
Frank Shannon finds himself in the unbelievable situation where he’s forced to confront the failures of his past in order to secure his future. To do this he must first learn to understand and ultimately control the forces that have seemingly worked against him his entire life.
2-The Artificial Man
The science behind humanoid robotics is advancing at a rate a million times accelerated from our own evolution. Someday, we will possess a technology that will successfully mimic creation itself. Until then, man will remain content to dabble in the limited mechanical recreation of himself.
The story begins with Sam Haywood, a very successful Hollywood effects artist specializing in advanced humanoid robotics, joining a government research team. Once inside, Sam is in awe of what he finds. He had no idea that this kind of technology existed.
But in the end, his ultimate revelation may be too terrifying to accept.
3-The Student
Suppose that the Earth was a homework assignment prepared by a college student for his Masters Thesis. Let’s also suppose that this student was--to put it nicely--not the top performer in their class.
The Student is a first person account of the thought process and the hurdles encountered along the way.
So how does it all come out? Does he pass?
4-Exile
The concept of a prison changes as one’s own perception about the imprisonment changes. A cruise ship is, in effect, a prison, but it's not viewed as such because of the luxurious surroundings. As the population continues to grow and the planet's resources are stretched, some would consider the Earth a kind of prison.
Deep within our own future, the human race finds itself trapped by fundamental breakdown within all living things. The planet is dying and something must be done if the inhabitants are to survive. But can mankind overcome its own worst character flaws in order to save itself?
5-Levels (The Candidate)
For as long as mankind has existed on this planet, there has also existed the idea of an afterlife. The idea of a reward for a life lived well. But what if the afterlife was nothing more than a doorway to. . .someplace else. A passageway into another dimension of existence. A higher plane as some have speculated.
But in order to successfully pass onto this other existence, questions must be answered. And milestones must be achieved before a life energy is allowed to move on.
Before The Candidate is allowed to proceed to the next level.
