What The Heck is a Big Pizza Box?
Well, The Big Pizza Box is the name of my original solo project from back in the day.
Not exactly sure how it first came about, but I'd guess it had something to do with me and Dave sitting around in front of a day-old, yet-to-be-cleaned-up pizza box and making some off-the-cuff remark about how that would be a good name for an album. And I thought, "Yeah, you're right."
But however it came about, it just did. And now, some 30 odd years later, I'm stuck with it. And here in 2026 I'm putting the finishing touches on both Pizza Box 12 and Pizza Box 13.
And I'm not completely sure why I've kept at it this long. Other than I just seem to need to. As long as I get this stuff stuck in my head, I guess I'll keep recording it so I can just get it out of there.
I've never had any preconceived notion that anyone other than me would appreciate any of it. I certainly haven't done it for the fame and the subsequent avalanche of riches (obviously). I just do it to do it. I like it. And some of it makes me smile when I hear it.
But honestly, about 90% of it is really solid filler material. You know, the songs you use to fill in between the hits on an album. That's what I'm good at.
